Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign seeks to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It occupies a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced following a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby encompasses a group of prominent voices from the industry. All participated in the benefit event, which managed to collect a considerable total for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The track showcases a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“There is no a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions won't make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
