David Raya Backs Team's Strength as Vital to Silverware Ambitions
The Spanish shot-stopper has stated that intense competition for starting positions is fueling Arsenal's outstanding run, with the goalkeeper asserting that the squad's depth under Mikel Arteta is so extraordinary that they can compete for various titles this season.
Dominant Wins Highlight Arsenal's Prowess
The North London club's latest 4-0 triumph over Atlético Madrid represented their six consecutive wins and tenth triumph in 12 matches. Having let in just three goals—the fewest at this stage in the club's history—Arsenal have established a one-point lead at the Premier League summit and a perfect record in the Champions League after three matches.
Rotation and Versatility Crucial to Success
Raya has featured in nearly every game, except for one domestic cup fixture, but Arteta has consistently rotated the lineup following heavy spending on new signings. When asked about chasing multiple trophies, Raya responded, "Yes, I think so. Our squad strength is incredible. There are numerous options who can excel in multiple positions."
For instance, against Atlético, Mikel Merino was introduced as a striker and can also play as a No 8 or attacking midfielder. Such flexibility is what the boss has, and he's using it to benefit the team. Things appear very, very good, and this roster strength is very important for us.
Rivalry Elevates Standards
The Spain international added, "That provides an additional edge in training and matches because if you're not at it, you can lose instantly. It creates healthy competitiveness in training and during matches, which is vitally significant, and everyone is on board."
Defensive Solidity a Collective Effort
Arsenal have conceded only one goal from open play this season, and the keeper has faced a mere one attempt in their last three wins against three opponents.
"Everyone contributes from the striker to the goalie," Raya explained. "Everyone is focused, determined not to give anything away, and we aim to intercept passes before it reaches the halfway line. If we intercept, it allows a quick counter. It's crucial for everyone to feel this mentality, and opponents aren't creating many chances, which is ideal."
