Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no intentions for further series.
However, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
