The NRL's governing body has declared that participants who sign with the “counterfeit” R360 competition will be banned for a decade.

R360, which plans to launch in late 2026, is hoping to draw athletes from both codes with lucrative deals and a slimmed-down fixture list.

Leading rugby league stars have reportedly received offers by the new league, which will involve six to eight men's sides and four women's sides operating from key urban centers globally.

Representing Samoa the rugby star, who represents the Warriors in the league, has stated he has had negotiations involving the new organization.

Ryan Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Payne Haas and Gray are also said to be considering joining the rebel league.

Several leading union countries, among them Australia, earlier announced a restriction on athletes signing with R360 appearing in international matches.

“We've listened to our teams and we've responded strongly,” stated ARLC chief Peter V'Landys.

“Regrettably, there will persistently exist organizations that attempt to hijack our sport for economic benefit.

“They fail to contribute in pathways or the development of athletes. They only leverage the dedication of others, endangering athletes of monetary damage while profiting themselves.

“Essentially, they are, counterfeiting a code.”

The league is launched by retired international Mike Tindall and supported by commercial backers.

After the potential union sanctions were declared earlier, it commented: “We seek to cooperate together as integrated into the global rugby calendar.

“The series is arranged with customized calendars for men's and women's teams and the organization will permit participants for international matches, as specified in their contracts.”

The new league will request authorization for its proposals from rugby union's governing body, rugby union's governing body, at its council meeting next year.
