Ukraine's drones have struck the Russian Bashneft facility in the city of Ufa, positioned some 1,400 km from Ukraine, resulting in blasts and a blaze, as reported by a source in Ukraine's intelligence agency.
This constitutes the latest Ukrainian security service far-reaching assault in the region in the recent weeks. Those attacks illustrate that there are no protected areas in the distant backlines of the Russian state.
Ukrainian President Urges US President to Broker Ceasefire in the Conflict
President Zelenskyy urged the US President to mediate a ceasefire in the Ukrainian conflict over a call on Saturday.
"Provided that a conflict can be ended in a single area, then undoubtedly other wars can be stopped as well, including the Russian war," the President said, praising Trump's "exceptional" Gaza truce proposal and requesting the American leader to compel the Kremlin into discussions.
Moscow's Attacks Take Lives in the Country
Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory resulted in the deaths of 5 individuals on the weekend and cut power to parts of Ukraine's south Odesa area, per local sources.
A pair of individuals died in a church in the town when it was struck, per municipal sources.
In the Russian frontier area of the Belgorod region, a lorry operator was killed by a Ukrainian strike, according to regional authorities.
Power Restoration Operations in the Capital
Work continued on the weekend to repair energy infrastructure in Kyiv, after strikes by Moscow.
Energy had been returned to more than 800,000 residents by the weekend and the largest private energy company said the main work to recover electricity was complete though some outages persisted.
Air Defence Efforts and UAV Interceptions
Ukraine's anti-aircraft systems intercepted or jammed 54 of 78 total Russian drones sent towards the country overnight, the aerial defense command reported on the weekend.
Russia's defense officials claimed it shot down 42 UAVs from Ukraine over its own soil.
Cuba Rejects Accusations of Sending Troops to the War
The Cuban government on Saturday denied American assertions it has deployed military personnel to participate in the Ukraine war, while stating the government "lack precise data about Cuban nationals" involved "on their own" or "within the troops of the conflicting parties".
The ministry in the capital stated twenty-six Cuban citizens had been given prison terms to jail sentences from five up to fourteen years for mercenary activity since September 2023 when reports emerged of Cubans being deployed to the battlefield in the conflict.
Surrender Initiative Initiative Discloses Data on Cuban Involvement
The program, a Ukrainian government program that encourages opposing fighters to lay down arms, said in spring: "Our information indicates the names and personal details of 1,028 Cubans who signed contracts with the Moscow's troops in the past two years."
The government in Havana said of Cuban nationals who might be involved: "Undeniably that not a single one has the encouragement, commitment, or approval of the government in Havana for their involvement."
Relatives of individuals who left for the Russian Federation in the year told news outlets at the time that their relatives had been tricked into joining through ads on social media.
