Shock as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by three individuals, with one opened fire on him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the shooting has not been established and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Law enforcement said that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a building close to the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the site overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, according to reports.
"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement said.
Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.
