Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to discard a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Alternatively, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
